Stock Your Kitchen with These Staples for a Resolution You Can Accomplish

After a week of indulging, January is a great time for eating healthy (and cleaning out your pantry)! Inspired by our recent boxes, we’ve compiled a list of some of our most popular products from Morocco and Peru to help you restock your kitchen for 2017. We’ve also included ideas for some easy meals to help jump start your cooking! Eating thoughtfully doesn’t have to be a burden.

Chia seeds
from De Guste

High in omega-3 fatty acids, these chia seeds from Peru are a great breakfast superfood. Originally grown in Mexico, these ancient seeds provide energy and vitamins (chia means “strength” in the Mayan language). Breakfast idea: mix ½ cup of oats with 1 teaspoon of chia seeds, stir together with 1 cup of milk and soak overnight covered, then drizzle honey on top before eating.

Moroccan couscous
from Dari

Couscous is a great alternative to pasta, and it takes only 10 minutes to make. Pair ours with roasted vegetables or make a chilled salad with fresh herbs, chopped vegetables, fresh lemon squeeze, and virgin olive oil. The cooking ratio is generally 1:1, and a cup of dry couscous makes about four cups cooked.

Green tea with mint
from Dar Choumicha

Herbal and fresh, this tea is known for improving digestion and also for reducing pain and stress. In Morocco, it’s customary to drink mint tea and there’s even a proverb for the experience: “The first glass is as gentle as life, the second is as strong as love, and the third is as bitter as death.” Try it iced for a refreshing afternoon beverage or drink it warm to help you unwind before bed.

Quinoa
from Inti

This tri-grain quinoa comes from Peru’s Andes mountains and contains an impressive amount of minerals and vitamins. Try serving it with roasted vegetables and a protein of your choice for a delicious and easy one-bowl lunch. It’s perfect to bring to work and gluten free!

Moroccan Harissa
from Pikarome

A condiment made of red peppers and spices, harissa is an easy way to add sought-after sweet and spicy flavor to almost any dish. The flavor is vibrant and acidic, but much subtler than hot sauce or Sriracha. Add a tiny dollop onto grilled chicken or serve it as a sauce with oven roasted sweet potato fries.

Cacao nibs and blueberries
from Nacional Cacao

These chocolate nibs are made with USDA verified “pure origin” cacao from Peru. Mixed with blueberries and cane sugar, they are naturally sweet and packed with vitamins and antioxidants. They’re a perfect way to get your chocolate fix.
