About the box
Famous for its vast, frozen wilderness, untouched forests, and countless islands, Sweden is quickly becoming a top culinary destination. This month, curating chef Emma Bengtsson shares two of Sweden’s most treasured culinary traditions with you: smörgåsbord (the Swedish buffet) and fika (the daily coffee ritual).
The curating chef
Originally from a small town on Sweden’s western coast, Chef Emma Bengtsson grew up learning the secrets of Nordic cuisine from her grandmother. After discovering her talent for pastries and working at a variety of notable restaurants in Sweden, she moved to New York and led Aquavit to become a two-star Michelin restaurant as its executive chef.
What’s inside
The Sweden Box contains 8 of the most quintessential Swedish pantry items. Notable mentions include an award-winning mustard made with local mustard seeds (so delicious, we’re tempted to eat it straight from the jar), elderflower saft syrup (an amazing addition to cocktails and other drinks), and coffee (what’s a fika coffee break without coffee?).
How to use the box
Chef Bengtsson shows you how to prepare and host an authentic Smörgasbord, complete with salmon toasts, a cheese-and-charcuterie plate, and potato dumplings. Her easiest recipes are included in the Culture Guide, and to make the full smörgåsbord as pictured in the Culture Guide, check out the other recipes in the magazine. Chef Bengtsson also shows you how to experience fika, the famous Swedish coffee break, with the coffee, cookies, licorice, and fudge from the box!
