While brainstorming with Cervantes Ramirez of New York City bar The Ship, Powell created a series of cocktails using the Spanish fortified wine Sherry. In the Spanglish, Powell combines distinctly American and Spanish spirits (bourbon and sherry) to create a strong and lightly spiced drink. It’s a perfect nightcap or end-of-dinner digestif.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 oz. bourbon
- ½ oz. dry sherry, preferably fino
- ½ oz. Amaro Nonino (an Italian digestif)
- 2 dashes chocolate bitters
- 1–3 ice cubes
- Paprika, for garnish
- Lemon zest, for garnish
DIRECTIONS
In a chilled rocks glass, combine the bourbon, sherry, amaro, and bitters. Add the ice and stir for 45 seconds. Garnish with the paprika and lemon zest and serve.
