Shennong’s Revenge: Japanese Matcha Cocktail

Shennong’s Revenge: Japanese Matcha Cocktail

Serves: 1 • Time: 10 minutes

Shennong, a legendary ruler of ancient China, is credited for the discovery of matcha tea almost five millennia ago. His discovery was not confined to China, however, as the Japanese co-opted it. Here, Powell creates a modern take on the traditional tea in a vodka-based cocktail that packs a punch with matcha tea.

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 sprigs basil
  • ¼ lime, plus 1 wedge for garnish
  • 4 oz. vodka
  • 2 oz. coconut milk
  • 1½ oz. Blueberry Matcha Syrup
  • 3 ice cubes

DIRECTIONS

In a cocktail shaker, muddle 2 basil sprigs with the ¼ lime. Add the vodka, coconut milk, Blueberry Matcha Syrup, and ice and shake vigorously for 15 seconds. Strain into a chilled highball glass filled with ice and garnish with the last basil sprig and lime wedge.
